Reducing the cost of renewable energy for industrial-scale chemistry

We build optimisation systems for designing and operating renewable energy infrastructure for large chemical processes and other energy-intensive loads, lowering capital requirements and levelised costs.

Industrial chemical production is energy-intensive. When that energy comes from intermittent renewable sources, the engineering challenge shifts from simple procurement to integrated system design: sizing generation, storage, and process equipment as a single optimised unit.

Our approach couples proprietary optimisation algorithms with detailed process simulation. Rather than overbuilding to guarantee uptime, we find configurations that balance capital cost, operational flexibility, and production targets across the full operating envelope of the plant.

Lower capital expenditure is what allows renewable-powered processes to compete with conventional alternatives on their own economics, rather than relying on subsidies.

Renewable system design

Integrated sizing of solar, wind, battery storage, and thermal systems matched to specific industrial loads, using real irradiance and weather data for the target site.

Process cost optimisation

Energy infrastructure and downstream process economics (electrolysis, synthesis, thermal processing) optimised jointly to minimise the levelised cost of the final product.

Dispatch and control strategy

Dispatch strategies that manage energy flows between generation, storage, and process loads, accounting for forecast uncertainty and equipment constraints.

Techno-economic analysis

Capital and operating cost models, sensitivity analysis across key parameters, and supporting analysis for project finance and stakeholder review.

We concentrate on large loads where energy is the dominant cost.

Hydrogen and ammonia

Electrolytic hydrogen and its derivatives, where electrolyser utilisation and storage sizing largely set the cost of the final product.

Chlor-alkali to hydrogen

Renewable-powered chlor-alkali electrolysis, with the hydrogen co-product recovered as a saleable stream or used on site.

AI data centres

Data centres need large amounts of power around the clock. The same methods size generation and storage to supply a constant load from variable resources at the lowest cost.

The approach applies wherever solar and wind resources are strong, in Australia and internationally.

Australian Renewable Chemicals is an early-stage company founded in Perth in 2022. Our team combines chemical process engineering with mathematical optimisation, and we develop our modelling and optimisation software in-house.

We work with project developers and investors at the feasibility stage, where design decisions have the largest effect on cost.

If you are developing an industrial project with significant energy requirements and want to understand how integrated renewable optimisation could reduce your costs, we would welcome a conversation.
